Essential Questions: What is a landscape in art? What are some reasons why artists create landscapes? What “Elements of Art” do artists use to portray landscapes?

Student Assignments:
Week 1 - View examples of landscapes and discuss foreground, mid-ground, and background. Guided drawing: Using pencil, sketch a landscape with line showing value and space. Trace over sketch with a permanent marker.
Week 2- View and compare examples of landscapes and discuss why each artist may have chosen that scene. Finish first drawing and sketch a second showing a landscape of choice.
Week 3- View demonstration of watercolor techniques. Finish two landscape drawings and paint with watercolors. Title and share finished artwork. Discuss how the “Elements of Art” were used and why the scene for the landscape was chosen.

Essential Questions: How do artists portray landscapes and/or cityscapes? How can you use value and form when creating landscapes or cityscapes? What are the different features of a landscape or cityscape? How can you create a cityscape that expresses an idea or meaning?

Student Assignments: 3D Architectural CityScape...
Students will create an architectural drawing using using line, value and form. They will use this drawing to create a 3-Dimensional CityScape that shows creative thinking and ideas.
1. Week 1 -Make an architectural sketch of a city background using pencil and then outline with black sharpie. Add value using pencil.
Week 2- Sketch a city mid-ground and foreground using pencil and outlining with black sharpie. Add value using pencil. Add other creative details to make city your own...
Week 3 - Paint background, mid-ground and foreground with watercolors
Week 4 - Cut out and attach foreground, mid-ground, and background to make 3-D cityscape. Share finished art work with classmates. Students describe how their cityscapes express an idea or meaning. Students compare how they used new art techniques, materials and elements of art to create original works of art.

demonstration.
Using the skills learned, create a detailed NOTAN using an idea or theme..
