Every school day for the past year and a half, Betty Van Vliete steps out into the middle of Route 302 to control the traffic and allow buses, cars, and pedestrians to safely get into Manchester School in Windham.

Education is certainly the key to success in life and teacher Melissa Azzaratta continues to strive to make a lasting impact in the lives of her students.

Starting in 2019, a violin was donated to the Mike Block String Camp in Vero Beach, FL. in honor of Daniel Pearl, a journalist and violinist who was killed in 2002 in Pakistan. Daniel's family has set up a foundation in his name that sponsors thousands of concerts in a year in his memory during World Music Days, as well as nurturing people's love of writing. Every year at camp, one student is selected to be awarded this violin to use for one year with the goal of spreading Daniel's love of music in their community.
